Artisan Spotlight: Dave Slymon – The “Rock Guy” of Honeoye Falls
At Feisty, we celebrate the stories behind the art and the people whose creativity brings warmth, whimsy, and wonder into our homes. This month, we’re thrilled to feature one of our local treasures: Dave Slymon, affectionately known around town as the “Rock Guy”.
Dave lives right here in Honeoye Falls with his wife of 26 years. A retired special education teacher and athletic coach, Dave has long balanced his love for the outdoors with a passion for art. While he’s always enjoyed drawing and painting, his creative journey took a unique turn during a hiking trip, when a particularly interesting rock caught his eye – and sparked an idea.
From that moment, a new form of expression was born.
What began as a few hand-painted gifts for family and friends has blossomed into a vibrant artistic outlet, blending natural elements with heart and humor. Dave’s signature pieces include cheerful painted rocks and framed pebble art that captures nature in a playful yet elegant way. Dave’s work tells a story and brings joy with every brushstroke and pebble placement.
Each piece is crafted with care, combining found materials from the natural world with Dave’s eye for balance, color, and charm. His framed work and hand-painted rocks – like the sunny flowers, bold sunflowers, or detailed wildflower fields shown here – are favorites among Feisty shoppers and make perfect gifts for all occasions.
We’re proud to feature Dave’s work in the shop and love having such a talented (and humble!) artist in our artisan community. His pieces are not just décor – they’re a reminder of the beauty in everyday things and the joy of finding creativity in unexpected places.
